This website is dedicated to woolgrowers and other fiber farmers and to
fiber processors who prepare fleece and fiber for fiber artists. It is my hope that these
pages will help these small family businesses continue to grow and flourish.
The woolgrowers listed here often have flocks of fewer than 50 animals, usually knowing them all by name.
They work long, cold, sleepless nights during lambing, vigilant to the welfare of their laboring
ewes and newborn lambs. They devote hot, dusty hours to shearing, sorting, and and skirting
fleeces. Representing some of our last small, independent farmers, they are dedicated to the well-being of
their animals and to the health of their land and its resources. They are stewards of many of our
remaining green fields and open spaces, dedicated keepers of a vanishing rural way of life.
My thanks and appreciation to all of them. |
